have a look at 
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.12/Documentation/user/lilypond-program/Command-line-options-for-lilypond#Command-line-options-for-lilypond 
for the available output options, which include both PNG and SVG.

In short, you probably want to use the following command:
        lilypond --png -dresolution=<someInteger> <input.ly>
