I have a proposal myself, or at least an idea what is going on. I started to write a Haskell program to make it explicit, but it is off right now. The problem is in principle quite easy, but complicated practice. The simplest beaming is "in one", a meter that is not actually written traditionally, but Beethoven's fifths is played in that. Then has an iterations of subdivisions, including p:q, which should not be treated with ratio (rational number) equivalence, which terminate in the deepest level at "in one" beaming. Then that should be synched with beaming. Some want to use different patterns for matching and printing.
