Why not use a text mark (see section "Text marks" in the manual)
before the first note of each pattern:
\mark \markup {...}

Hi,

I am currently writing rhythmic patterns in a RhythmicStaff. Each pattern
should get its own Number 1...n, so I put a markup to the first note/brake
of each pattern, just like here:

c8--^\markup { \circle 1 } c8--~c4 c4-. c8-- c8-.~c8 c8-. r4 r2 \bar "||"
r8^\markup { \circle 2 } c4-. c8-- c8--[ c8--] c4-. c4. c8 r2   \bar "||"
...

Problem here is, that the numbers are written in "camel style", which means
that the circle for number 2 is below the circle for number 1, as the anchor
(= r8 ) has no stem.

Is it possible to align them all at the same vertical position?
