I tried the same with Cygwin ..got the same error message... tried copying the file and adding the extra .pfa but this time the same error occured with
error: can't find file:
/usr/share/lilypond/2.6.0/fonts/type1//PFAPFAemmentaler-26.pfa.pfa.pfa - keeps on adding an extra .pfa for some strange reason.

Sorry, can't recall the details anymore. It's also strange that .pfa is there twice.
