Do you have a graphical Interface? If yes, try using nedit or gedit/kwrite (if
you have Gnome/KDE). I'm using wrtie and it works well for me. If you don't
have a graphical interface, try using nano or mcedit, which I for myself
think to me more intuitive(?) than vi/vim/joe... But I know it's a matter of
taste.

Are you trying to install 2.2.x? 2.0.x does not call acroread. But maybe the
binary is not in your $PATH (at least in the terminal your starting lily in)?
