Yes, I find it stands out as looking "sloppy".

Here's an example of what I think it *should* look like (untweaked as engraved by Igor Engraver v1.7):

Note how the top and bottom accidentals align (without touching), and how much "cleaner" the result is.

perhaps the developers use a different set of engraving rules?

Well, I specifically remember looking at these practices in several engraving texts (including the ones referenced in the Lilypond docs), and I just physically checked some engraved scores (Peters, Bärenreiter, and Henle) -- the standard is to vertically align accidentals at the seventh (or greater), and the sixth where collision would not occur (e.g., natural above natural).

If you really need to change it, I think that extra-offset is the way to do it.

But where do I put it? I tried to put the directive both inside and outside the <> chord block, but got an error both times...
