The official, but undocumented, way to install the Type1 fonts is

make MAKE_PFA_FIILES=1 install
texhash

Once again, I think I'm in need of some bit of information.  What have I
failed to do?  Note: ly2dvi -P works.  I looked in
/usr/src/lilypond/mf/out and there are, indeed *.pfa files there.
