I am absolutely interested in this topic, and would like to
add my two cents before you leave :)
1. Instead of ALSA you could target something more general,
like Jack for instance.
2. Lots of people use sly, which has a different input
format and is also worth supporting.
I am sure what you are doing is very important and fills a
bad lack.
