Dear helpers,
I have just downloaded lylipond-1.4.9.uu1 (at
least I guess that's what it is) for one of my daughters to write sheet music.
And guess what: I can't get it working. I followed your instructions from
and got stuck almost immediately.
I made a file foo.ly with contents as you
specified:
\score { \notes { c4 ( ) c4 } }
I have stored that in c:/cygwin/home/robmudde,
which is the directory the gnu-lilypond icon opens in when double clicked. There
I have typed
ly2dvi -P foo
and indeed lilypond starts working on the file. But
it stops with a screen more than filled with warnings and ends with some errors.
Below you find what I could copy from the screen (quite some lines are missing,
but I can't get the screen bigger than 50 lines)
warning: can't find file: `arranger'
warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `instrument' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `opus' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `piece' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `metre' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `meter' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `poet' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `texttranslator' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `language' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `linewidth' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `latexpackages' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `latexoptions' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `latexheaders' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `orientation' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `pagenumber' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `textheight' warning: can't find file: `-H' warning: can't find file: `papersize' warning: can't find file: `/home/Rob' warning: can't find file: `Mudde/foo' warning: no lilypond output found for /home/Rob Mudde/foo Running LaTeX... error: latex: command exited with value 256 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lilypond-1.4.9.uu1/bin/ly2dvi.py", line 842, in ? run_latex (files, outbase, extra_init) File "/usr/lilypond-1.4.9.uu1/bin/ly2dvi.py", line 622, in run_latex system (cmd) File "/usr/lilypond-1.4.9.uu1/bin/ly2dvi.py", line 230, in system error (msg) File "/usr/lilypond-1.4.9.uu1/bin/ly2dvi.py", line 128, in error raise _ ("Exiting ... doing so, please keep in mind that you 'talk' to laymen. Specify literally what
you want us to do.
We are running lilypond on a standard PC,
using windows ME as operating system. As far as I can tell nothing went wrong
with the installation. The directory tree we now have is
like
