I still think it's a shame we need to have a separate function but. . .
Maybe we should call this one \afterGraceSpaced or \afterGraceWithSpacing?  That way the name says "we are using afterGrace  notes and are choosing to space them".  \afterGraceSpacing implies it's just a function to set the \afterGraceFraction variable.
