Sure enough, they were there.

I tried this, got the same error message
address@hidden lilypond]# rpm --install --force
ec-fonts-mftraced-1.0.2-1.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        mftrace is needed by ec-fonts-mftraced-1.0.2-1

Did this.

address@hidden lilypond]# cd /
address@hidden /]# rpm2cpio
~carl/lilypond/ec-fonts-mftraced-1.0.2-1.noarch.rpm | cpio -uid
15918 blocks

Looked in the /usr/share/texmf/fonts/tfm/public/ec-fonts-mftraced
folder, found that the fonts were there.

address@hidden ec-fonts-mftraced]$ ls
ecbi10.tfm ecbx6.tfm ecrb17.tfm ecrm9.tfm ecss10.tfm ecti8.tfm
ecbi12.tfm ecbx7.tfm ecrb7.tfm ecsc10.tfm ecss12.tfm ecti9.tfm
ecbi14.tfm ecbx8.tfm ecrm10.tfm ecsc12.tfm ecss17.tfm ectt10.tfm
ecbi17.tfm ecbx9.tfm ecrm12.tfm ecsc14.tfm ecss8.tfm ectt12.tfm

ecbx5.tfm ecrb14.tfm ecrm8.tfm ecsl9.tfm ecti7.tfm

Reran lilypond, got the same error.

[...]

I hunted around for kpathsea paths in my environment (seems they were
important in Cygwin), but I couldn't find any.

which couldn't find kpathsea.

address@hidden /]# which kpathsea
/usr/bin/which: no kpathsea in
(/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/root/bin)

Any more thoughts?

Thanks for your patience with me and your help!
