compiling help

Hi-
Apologies if this is too newbie- I've read all the docs I can find.

I'm having trouble building 1.5.55 on Mandrake 8.2.  I think I have all the 
requisite packages (gcc2.96, etc.) but I get "error: Command not found", 
i.e.
<snip>
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/hans/download/lilypond-1.5.55/lily'
error -d parser.yy
make[1]: error: Command not found
make[1]: *** [out/parser.hh] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/hans/download/lilypond-1.5.55/lily'
</snip>

Any advice?  I'm hoping this is something obvious that I'm missing.
