Thanks, so this seems to be a documentation issue, since what you mention  
here is not described anywhere in the manuals – to be more specific,  
`ly:separation-item::print' isn't documented at all...

However, it would be sometimes quite useful to see the *final* horizontal  
spacing decisions: Is there a way get them, similar to the skylines?
