http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2529IMO as long as ../configure --some-kind-of-flag finishes without errors, the documentation and make dist should complete without problems. I'm happy to use --enable-documentation to check for tar+gftodvi, but if you're troubled by mixing "make dist" stuff with --enable-documentation, then I certainly don't mind having an --enable-all or --check-all or something like that.
