http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2566The rule of "A beam should never start off the beat" precludes c4. c8[ c c], which you have claimed is an appropriate beaming pattern.
It would be quite straightforward to implement "never start off the beat". I have not seen that rule expressed anywhere previously.
