Yes, I noticed the change that ltmain.sh is now in the source tree.
What I meant was a little different: it took me some time to notice
that an old config/ltmain.sh was still lurking in my old build tree
(VPATH'ed), and it caused broken libtool scripts.

Yes, and everyone updating across that change will have to remove all
ltmain.sh files from all old build trees they want to re-use by hand
once. Or start off with clean build trees. That's why leaving in a
CLEANFILES entry for a while is not perfect, but IMVHO not such a bad
idea as it does not hurt. Or put a note somewhere (did I just not see
such a note?) to that extent.
