In the general case I would agree with you. I'm hoping that since the
differences between the two files tend to be just the gnulib
integration,
and that a broadly identical handful of lines constitutes the
implementation
of each, that I can contribute the libltdl portability layer to
gnulib,
and
let the wider gnulib community help maintain it so that I can
concentrate
on libtool proper...
Given that the last time the copyright on ltdl.c was updated (until
today) was 2002, does it seem to you that maintaining these small
functions is keeping you from concentrating on the rest of libtool?
Not specifically. But, there is a bunch of stuff I'd like to do to
libltdl,
except that I struggle to find my way around the code, and I'm afraid
to make
deep changes. I haven't touched it in 2 years because the deep changes
in
libtool seemed a lot easier to tackle.
Maybe you noticed that my work on m4 has stalled on a number of
occasions due
to fixing bogosity in libltdl.
Is it possible that a mountain is being made out of a molehill?
Heh :-) Like many programmers I can get retentive about DTRT. The path
to
the summit does not always go uphill; sometimes you have to go down for
a
while before you start to ascend the next peak.
Cheers,
Gary.
