OK.

I setup a user first.

adduser tom1

Then changed his password

passwd tom1

Then I ran:

jk_jailuser --jail=/home/jailkit tom1

home directory /home/tom1 is not within /home/jailkit, move the directory contents?
[Y]/[n] Y

Then I ran :

sftp address@hidden

And then got this:

sftp> Warning: child process (/usr/local/bin/ssh2) exited with code 0.

Yes, I have the same config on server1 and server2
I am testing on each different server...

/usr/sbin/jk_chrootsh is set to run and set to 755 and I even
changed it to 777

that is *extremely insecure* because jk_chrootsh is setuid root!!

Also, what is the step by step process to add a new user?

If I run the following:

jk_jailuser -m -j /home/jailkit mike

It says :

user mike does not exist

please read the manual first `man jk_jailuser` it explains it all.

What is the best way to do this?

use jk_jailuser as explained in the manual

Olivier
