Hi Peter,
well since you'll end up using a .authinfo file (you'll get bored typing
the password every time), you might use the nntp-authinfo-file variable
to store the file in a location other than the default.
My personal preference is to store all emacs customizations under a
folder like ~/.elisp/ and then I just have to synchronize just a single
directory. So, you'll just put the .authinfo file under .elisp (or
whatever directory you might use).
Also, if you run gpg-agent consider using .authinfo.gpg in order to have
the file encrypted or signed. (just open a buffer with name
.authinfo.gpg, insert the contents of the original .authinfo, and save
the file, given that your gpg-agent setup is sound.)
