Ignore resources which had been committed? |

I cannot ignore resources which had been committed once, no matter what I try.
After I commited a file, I deleted it and committed the deletion. Then I ignored that file. But CVS ignored the ignore entry. So I deleted the file on the CVS machine the hard way. It didn't help.
What is the official way to ignore a file, which has been committed once? Or is it not possible with CVS in such a case?
