checkout aborts when almost finished

CVS 1.11
WinXP Pro SP2

When I checkout a huge project, the checkout aborts when its almost
finished. I want to checkout from CVS server (unix) to a mapped network
drive (windows). I'm doing the checkout with ANT 1.6.1.
The error message:
[cvs] cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot rename file CVS/Entries.Backup to
CVS/Entries: Bad address

BUILD FAILED
M:\build\execs\myproject\Environment\Toolconfig\build.xml:432: cvs
exited with error code 1
Command line was [Executing 'cvs' with arguments:
'-d:pserver:address@hidden:/export/home/cvs/webmax'
'-q'
'checkout'
'webmax'

The ' characters around the executable and arguments are
not part of the command.

Strangly, executing the same ANT script do checkout on a local drive
works fine.

What could that be? Any hint?
