cvs.exe exit code

I'm running cvs under win2k sp4.
I keep getting exit code 1 from cvs.exe but there are no errors reported on the 
screen.
I enabled CVS_CLIENT_LOG and the last line in the .out file is "error", nothing 
else.  How can I troubleshoot this to find out what's causing the error?
