Changing directory permissions but can't commit changes

Hi,

I tried to change the permissions of one directory in my checkout and coomit
it to cvs.
The answer was, that I can't add the directory because the directory already
exist.
In the cederquist cvs manual is pointed out that I need to clear the whole
directory
before it could be deleted. Ok, I do that and then try to add the directory
with new
permissions to CVS again. But the answer was the same: Directory already
exist.

So, how can I change the permissions of a directory without making such a
trouble
of delete and re-add??
