Not CVS. That "C" stands for "Concurrent". You can find out what that means at http://www.loria.fr/~molli/cvs/doc/cvs-paper.pdf
The cvs edit functionality was put in place to help people deal with files that cannot be edited concurrently. Note that there are some people on this list who think very little of that capability.
