cvs editors not working?

Hello,

There's a developer here who did 'cvs edit' on a set of files, but who
didn't show up in the list generated by 'cvs editors'. He did 'cvs
unedit', answered no when prompted to revert changes, and then did 'cvs
edit' again. This time he was listed by the editors command.
The only extenuating circumstance was that the initial 'edit' command
had been in effect for 'at least a week'.

Any ideas why his editor status might have disappeared? FYI, he
definitely used 'cvs edit', not some variation on 'chmod +w'.
