option: "-D today" needed

When executing "cvs diff", no output is produced.  Well, not exactly. 
Only "cvs server: Diffing ." is produced.  But when executing "cvs
diff -D today", I get the expected results, that is a list of
differences.  "cvs status" shows no sticky tags.  Background: The
latest modifications to the repository were done with a "cvs commit"
on a cygwin Windows client.  Any clues appreciated.
