I think Jon wants to supply something that's not a username on his
system at all. (... and I think you'd argue that this is meant to
be a username on the CVS server rather than any random token. I
can't decide whether I agree or not.)

Again, I think he wants to tag the source of the, er, source rather
than place blame. I'd argue that both bits of information are,
perhaps, important. (Not that I've got a good suggestion for how
to preserve them both.)
