CVS is the *Concurrent* Versions System; don't try to use locks to
defeat its main reason for existing.  Particularly if you don't know
what you're doing.

You can unlock the file by specifying the specific revision to unlock. 
You can use "cvs log" find out exactly what revisions you have locked.
