For -kb, yes, I think it would be rejected.

Because it would break backwards compatibility.

However, there has been talk in the past that if ANOTHER -k option (or some
other mechanism) was created that acted like -kb, but couldn't be
overridden, then that would be worth while.  Check the archives for around
October, 2000.
