I assume that you mean Microsoft Word documents. If so, these are 
binary files, make sure they have been added to CVS with the -kb flag
to mark them as such. CVS will not try to diff them, but will just 
commit the entire document. I believe that the reason you are seeing 
problems is that CVS is failing to diff the binary MS Word format 
correctly.

I believe that there was an extensive thread recently about versioning 
MS Word documents with CVS. You may want to check the archives.

I noticed that in your followup message, you mention that you are 
sucessfully able to commit and update RTM files. This is because RTM 
is a plain text format the CVS con properly difference. If I was going 
to check in MS Word dodcuments, I would do it use the RTM file format.
