I wondered that too. Based on my own "survey of one", I'd say that the
most popular setting (and definitely the simplest) is the current
default. Aside from that, ssh is not standard on many platforms (try
to remember that the entire world is not running Redhat Linux), which
would mean that setting up a minimal CVS system would be more complex
(either they have to install ssh, or they have to set CVS_RSH), which
would inevitably lead to multitudes of posts on this mailing list
asking the same question over and over (and over and over...).
