Sorry.  No new solution.  Like I said the first time through, the easy answer
is in switching to pserver mode and the second best probably lies in figuring
out which flags need to be changed on the SAMBA server to allow CVS to operate
properly across the share.  You might be better off with pserver anyhow.
Other problems may decide to rear their heads later, due to, say, EOL
conversions or whatever, and may turn out to be more subtle and harder to fix.

Of course if you want to do the testing & debugging, we'll read all the advice
you can send.  :)
