You have to use the correct flag for mplex to tell it to create (S)VCD
compatible streams. Try mplex -h  for usage and look for the flags that allow
you to choose the correct output format. I think the flag is -f 1 for VCD and 
-f 4 for SVCD. The default is not(!) (S)VCD compatible.  You then have to
choose the same format for vcdimager.
