If you're using TMPGEnc 12c or later, they have the MPEG-2 functions
enabled for 30 days only. Either upgrade to 12e or wait for 12f :)

I think the people who oppose using MJPEG are referring to the fact that
uncompressed (or even HUFFYUV) avi would (obviously) be a better source?
If you get good quality with your own settings go with it :) I too have
seen very good svcd encodes of MJPEG captured video.
