footnote & image centering within @multitable

i have two problems, both with the TeX output.

1) i need to put a footnote within a multitable. In TeX,
the superscript number appears but the body of the footnote
is missing from the bottom of the page. Is there a work-around?

2) i have lots of @multitable's with text in one column and an
image in the second column. This works great in HTML, but
i can't figure out how to make the TeX match the HTML appearance.

The image is positioned with the bottom on the baseline (too high)
or if i put a vskip before the image:

  @iftex
  @vskip 0pt plus 1fil
  @end iftex

Then the image is too low, squeezed against the bottom of the
row. How can i center the image within the row?

Thanks!!
