Thanks. I think I'm missing something fundamental about how to use these two
files.
I tried following http://guide.macports.org/#development.local-repositories,
but that seems designed for people starting from scratch. Based on your note,
I can definitely put the octave-3.7.7+.tar.gz file in the /tmp folder, but
deciphering what to do with the octave-local-3.7.7+.tar.gz has so far eluded me.
I'm currently occupying myself by making sure I have all the dependencies
listed in the math/octave-local/Portfile.
