I find it hard to care about mac users, or indeed anything Apple, am I doubt there is much support here?
Am I wrong?

Interesting. I read here that Homebrew has removed support for Octave as of 
March 31. Could that be true? At least the Homebrew version (3.6.4) is current. 
Nobody is maintaining the MacPorts (devel) version as far as far as I can tell. 
It remains stuck at 3.6.3.
I don't keep up with Homebrew so I have no idea.

Regarding macports, I expect an update.  If anyone would like to submit an 
updated port file to their tracker, it might speed things up.
