I wouldn't recommend mixing Debian and Ubuntu packages, but I'm not
sure what Ubuntu recommends.

I was only pointing that out because the next Ubuntu release will
probably have Octave 3.6.1. However, we should be careful because
Ubuntu doesn't check the correctness of most unstable packages, so it
may also get all of the Debian Octave-Forge packages, many of which
are currently broken in Debian wrt 3.6.1, hence why the Octave package
will get an RC bug so it doesn't go down to testing (sadly, Ubuntu
ignores Debian's release cycle, so it also ignores problems like
these).

So I personally think it's best to prioritise the Octave-Forge packaging.
