Homebrew sounds fascinating, Rafa. I'm curious---what version of Octave was 
installed? I see that the "octave-devel" version on MacPorts is now version 
3.4.3 while the "octave" version languishes at 3.2.4. I don't know why there 
are two versions of Octave on MacPorts.
