contour plot problems.

Hello,

I am trying to make a contour plot of a 1000x1000 matrix. Plotting the whole 
original matrix runs well, but when I try to restrict it to the first 100 
columns, in order to zoom into a more interesting part, contour(a(:,1:100)), it 
breaks [1]. 

Any suggestions? What am I possibly doing wrong?
