I also am still sweating attempting to coerce octave-3.3.54 to build from source under Cygwin and a Linux system (for which I don't have admin privileges, therefore I can't fix the X11 problems on that system that Octave squawks about.) In order to test OctCdf (NetCdf ToolBox for Octave -- octcdf needs octave >= 3.3.51)

Dear all

I need to work with the octcdf package. However, there seems to be an issue
with octcdf not working with the current stable version of Octave (3.2.x).
Obviously, the issue is not with octcdf, but with the current stable version of
Octave. See here (and many other similar posts):

I don't want to mess around with non-stable Octave versions. So the question
is: why does the improvement that allows Octave 3.3 to work with octcdf not
make it into the next stable version (3.2.5 or so?). How can I convince the
gurus to make this happen?
