octcdf with Octave 3.2.x

Dear all

I need to work with the octcdf package. However, there seems to be an issue 
with octcdf not working with the current stable version of Octave (3.2.x). 
Obviously, the issue is not with octcdf, but with the current stable version of

I don't want to mess around with non-stable Octave versions. So the question 
is: why does the improvement that allows Octave 3.3 to work with octcdf not 
make it into the next stable version (3.2.5 or so?). How can I convince the 
gurus to make this happen?
