I don't know where you live (and i don't want to know), but talking about the states, germany, switzerland, france, great britain etc. we have the notion of an amount in controversy.
Quoting wikipedia:
"Amount in controversy (sometimes called jurisdictional amount) is a term used in United States civil procedure to denote a requirement that persons seeking to bring a lawsuit in a particular court must be suing for a certain minimum amount before that court may hear the case."

Honestly, no pig cares if you make a coffee to think properly about the email of that guy.

But every court will care if you buy books, hire consultants and develop something which you are then going to bill this guy's company for, because he asked for help and you "just" tried to be so nice to answer.

Heaven help ...

If you don't actually know, maybe you shouldn't be so certain. At
least where I live, we don't pay the Courts for access to legal
protection.

Common sense has very little to do with modern legal systems.
