I don't think there are any specific or uncommon hardware
requirements. Octave runs fine on Linux, MacOS X and Windows. Most
linux distributions (debian, redhat, suse, ubuntu, ...) include octave
packages so it is very easy to install on linux. Windows and MacOS
packages are available at http://octave.sourceforge.net/. I think it
can also be used on other Unix operating systems but it will probably
require compiling from sources. Of course faster computers and more
memory will work better ;)
