Lil-old-me contribute a patch!?  I love Octave mailing list -- nobody else gets 
to the "want it different -- send a patch!" quite so quick.

I will think about it.  I would be in favor of automagically silencing warnings 
if the evidence is that there is no X11 running at all.  If this is a 
possibility, then I would consider writing a patch.  To be honest, I won't 
write a patch if there MUST be a command line switch to silence the warnings, 
since I don't want that behavior anyway, though I would happily include such a 
switch to force the behavior.  

Does this sound reasonable? should we switch to developers?  Could you give me 
a link to any feature requests or discussions?
