Assume that you've downloaded this one rather than the one above. It depends
on the Architecture of your Mac. You want to downloac the octave-3.0.0
version rather than any of the options below.

You'll get a window called Octave-3.0.0.ppc.dmg (26.7 MB) on your desktop
and at the top of the window it says to drop the octave.app icon into your
Application folder in 5 languages. The window also shows that a
'Readme.html' file, a 'Doc' folder, and a 'Extras' folder are available.
They can be opened for reading the html file or for inspecting what's in the
folders. The 'Extras' folder contains the gnuplot-4.2.2.ppc.dgm which can
also be dropped into your Application folder.

Thanks to Thomas Treichl it is now easy to install octave on a Mac.
