Up to now, JHandles has only be compited and tested under Sun JDK 1.5 and
1.6. As you're not using one of them, I fear you'll have to debug the configure
script yourself:
1) get and unpack the jhandles source package
2) include octave installation dir in your PATH (such that you can run octave
simply by typing "octave")
3) run the configure script
Then inspect config.log and the shell commands executed by configure.
