"Replot" has long memory. It should work (works for me) if you repeat
"plot" command.

I am using octave 2.1.57 with gnuplot 3.8k on a Debian testing system,
kernel 2.4...
It is not probably relevant to your problems, but you should upgrade gnuplot
to 4.0. The older (3.8) versions had some funny octave synchronization
problems...
