Subject: octave (2.1.50/2.1.57) hang during startup

Hi,

I gave 2.1.57 a try on my ia32-redhat7-3 linux box (gcc 3.2.2).
Unfortunately it did not start.
It simply hang at very beginning:
- no prompt no nothing
- I could kill it with <ctrl-c>

This did not occur with 2.1.44

Running it with gdb did not give any more information:
-----------------------------
> gdb /share/sdmfs1/GNU/RedHat-7.3/usr/local/bin/octave

This GDB was configured as "i386-redhat-linux"...
(gdb) run
Starting program:
/net/sdmfs1/fs2/share/sdmfs1/GNU/RedHat-7.1/usr/local/bin/octave-2.1.50
-------------------- here he stays for ever
-----------------------------
with top I get:
PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND

octave-2.1.50
-------------------------------------------------------------------
obviously he is not really busy :-(

? Did anyone have similar problems ?
? Can I force some debugging output ?
