When you untar the source file for PLplot check in the directory 
"bindings/octave" where you'll find all the instructions to enable the 
octave bindings.

PLplot is great. It's a lot faster than GNUPlot and has a few added 
features.

You can find a description on what it is in the home page (all of this 
in in the bindings/octave directory):

http://lnc.usc.edu/~holt/matwrap/

You won't really need to know anything about it, though, as long as the 
install script can find it...
